Our Services

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)

We offer information and guidance on use of assistive listening devices, such as amplified telephones, FM transmitter systems, and infrared systems. These systems serve as additional help in situations when hearing aids do no provide the necessary assistance.

Audiometric Evaluations: Adults

The audiometric evaluation (audio) consists of testing with both speech and pure tones. Testing with pure tones is done to determine the amount of hearing loss for volume. Speech discrimination scores are obtained to estimate the loss of hearing pertaining to the fine-tunig ability of the ear.

Audiometric Evaluations: Pediatrics

Depending on the age of the child, different play techniques are employed to determine the amount of hearing loss in each ear using pure tones and speech stimuli. For the youngest children, information specific to each ear can be obtained using otoacoustic emission testing. For more information see Otoacoustic Emission Testing

Otoacoustic Emmision Testing

This test uses a tiny, flexible plug that is inserted into the patient's ear. Sounds are sent through the plug. A microphone in the plug records the otoacoustic emissions (responses) of the normal ear in reaction to the sounds. There are no emissions in any ear with more than a mild hearing loss. This test is painless and is usually completed within a few minutes. Hence this is an important tool to test the pediatric population.

Real Ear Measurements

Real ear measurement (REM) equipment provides simple test protocols for assessing real ear measures in infants, children, and adults. Real-ear measures are reliable, can be obtained quickly, and provide frequency and intensity information. These measures provide information about gain for speech-level inputs and maximum sound pressure levels delivered to the ear.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)

TRT is a form of habituation therapy designed to help persons who suffer from tinnitus (ringing ears). TRT uses counselling to explain to the patient how a combination of tinnitus retraining and sound enrichment can first end their negative reaction to the tinnitus sound, and then reduce and eventually end their perception of it. Frequently, noiser generators are used in TRT to provide a background noise level. Because there is no known cure for tinnitus, this therapy offers hope to sufferers that are willing to take the time and make the effort to learn and implement it in their lives. For more information see Tinitus Retraining (TRT).
